Generosity of Spirit

Christa DiCasparro Jan 18, 2021

When our thinking is wrapped up in healing our emotions, it can lead to complete absorption. It is a gift when we are working toward becoming better people — first for ourselves, so we can feel content with who we are. And it becomes a gift for our relationships too. Sharing yourself in a positive way is what it means to show generosity of spirit.

Even when our minds have already decided that not all people work to support our happiness, operating with a clear mind and open heart allows us to navigate toward a higher vibration. It is there — in that clarity — that we begin to consider others. The people who surround our lives are among our most treasured gifts. Even when our judgment of a relationship wavers, those relationships can weather the storm when met with a generous spirit.

Communication

Putting past feelings, resentment, shame, and guilt aside and saying what is true speaks volumes about our integrity. Even admitting to yourself and others that you can be wrong brings a quiet relief — a release from holding onto pain and wounds that no longer serve you. It can be something small: admitting you dropped the ball, or left the car windows down in the rain. Communication sets you free from carrying needless weight.

Inquiry

Sometimes generosity of spirit isn't about accepting fault or repairing a fence. Sometimes it's simply the ease of reaching out. Asking someone how they're doing is all it takes to brighten their moment. Your timing might be exactly the call that shifts someone's entire day.

Listen

The best relationships anyone can develop are the ones built on intentional listening. Ask questions about someone's world, their passions. Genuinely listening and showing curiosity about another person's life opens their heart — it tells them that someone cares. Today we spend far too much time seeking validation for ourselves. When we break that pattern and instead validate someone else's life, the "me" shifts to a "we." True listening is an authentic act of seeking to understand another person without turning the conversation back to yourself. That is the real art of it.

Lead by Example

Becoming a generous spirit is addictive. It is sharing your inner love and kindness and letting it spread out into the world. This is powerful — it can support and help others heal in quiet, meaningful ways. Often we exhaust ourselves trying to change the behavior of people around us who seem to be operating from a low place. But keeping your heart open and living in your truth — without resistance — is powerful energy on its own.

When others who are not in that space begin to affect and drain your vibration, there is potential to decline with them. It becomes a chain reaction. Stay on your true path. It can be a challenge, but your generous spirit will ignite — and in doing so, you will have touched and changed many lives in a positive way. An inspiration for others to follow.
